Marijuana in the State of Maine
In the state of Maine, medical marijuana is legal. Maine adopted a tolerant stance on the use of medical marijuana years ago. Their program began in 1999, allowing patients to grow and use marijuana if they met certain medical conditions. A qualified patient can have up to two and a half ounces on them at any time. Under any circumstance they should travel with more than the illegal limit. They can also cultivate up to 6 mature cannabis plants for their own use. On July 9, 2018 legislation approved amends to the state law now allowing a physician at their own discretion to re-comment medical marijuana to any patient for which they believe will benefit from it. There are no qualifying conditions to be able to receive a medical card. The most common conditions are Alzheimer's disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Cachexia or wasting syndrome, Cancer, Chronic pain, Crohn's disease, Epilepsy, Glaucoma, Hepatitis C, HIV/AIDS, Huntington's disease, Inflammatory bowel disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Nausea, Nail-patella syndrome, Parkinson's disease, PTSD, among other conditions. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, there are 51,324 registered patients under the voluntary registry. As of now, there is a minimum of eight dispensaries statewide.
In the state of Maine, recreational marijuana is legal allowing adults to possess, consume, and cultivate marijuana for personal use. The Marijuana Legalization Act permits adults ages 21 and older, who are not participating in the state's medical marijuana program, to legally grow, possess and use specified quantities of cannabis. When recreational marijuana dispensaries open, customers will be able to purchase recreational marijuana from them. No recreational dispensaries are open in Maine just yet, however, medical marijuana dispensaries are open for business. To be able to launch the recreational marijuana market in 2019, the Office of Marijuana Policy must shop its draft rules around to key state agencies, including agriculture, labor and public safety, for review and revision before referral to lawmakers in May for a legislative vote that must be held before the session ends in June.

A drug test is a technical analysis of a biological specimen, for example urine, hair, blood, breath, sweat, and/or oral fluid/saliva-to determine the presence or absence of specified parent drugs or their metabolites. Major applications of drug testing include detection of the presence of performance enhancing steroids in sport, employers and parole/probation officers screening for drugs prohibited by law (such as cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin) and police officers testing for the presence and concentration of alcohol (ethanol) in the blood commonly referred to as BAC (blood alcohol content).
