According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.2 km2), all land. It is located next to Sugar Mountain Ski Area, one of several ski areas in this section of North Carolina.

As of the census of 2000, there were 226 people, 121 households, and 61 families residing in the village. The population density was 92.6 people per square mile (35.8/km²). There were 1,212 housing units at an average density of 496.8 per square mile (191.8/km²).
