According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.81 square miles (2.1 km2), of which 0.81 square miles (2.1 km2) is land and 0.008 square miles (0.02 km2), or 0.98%, is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 496 people, 223 households, and 144 families residing in the town. The population density was 607.9 people per square mile (233.5/km²). There were 271 housing units at an average density of 332.1 per square mile (127.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 83.27% White, 13.91% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 1.61% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.41% of the population.

There were 223 households out of which 23.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.0% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.4% were non-families. 32.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
