The racial makeup of the village was 4.1% White, 94.2% African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.4% of the population.

There were 530 households of which 24.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 11.9% were married couples living together, 22.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.3% had a male householder with no wife present, and 60.4% were non-families. 51.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
