Munden was founded in September, 1887. It was named for John Munden, original owner of the town site.

Munden is located at 39°54?48?N 97°32?19?W? / ?39.91333°N 97.53861°W? / 39.91333; -97.53861 (39.913471, -97.538715). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.20 square miles (0.52 km2), all of it land.
