As of the census of 2000, there were 2,250 people, 858 households, and 614 families residing in the town. The population density was 115.8 people per square mile (44.7/km²). There were 897 housing units at an average density of 46.2 per square mile (17.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.29% White, 0.71% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.31% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race were 1.96% of the population.

There were 858 households out of which 33.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.6% were married couples living together, 9.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.4% were non-families. 20.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
