According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 29.9 square miles (77.4 km²), of which 14.3 square miles (37.1 km²) is land and 15.6 square miles (40.3 km²) (52.11%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,219 people, 492 households, and 338 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 85.2 people per square mile (32.9/km²). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 56.6/sq mi (21.8/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 98.36% White, 0.25% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.16% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.39% of the population.
There were 492 households out of which 25.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.8% were married couples living together, 4.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% were non-families. 22.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.88.
