In Evanston, Wyoming, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive drug testing services with a special focus on hair follicle tests. Whether it's for drugs or alcohol, we have testing sites nationwide ready to assist you. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body suffices. Our hair tests can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG and other tailor-made testing solutions.

Hair follicle drug tests have become more popular for drug screening in recent years. This method is increasingly preferred by employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts over urine tests. Employers with zero-tolerance policies, judicial systems, and those on probation value hair tests for their longer detection window, nearly 90 days, and resistance to cheating. However, urine tests remain most reliable for drug use detection within the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has become recognized as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a prolonged historical record of substance use by embedding biomarkers within the hair shaft as it grows. Collected near the scalp, hair can offer a detection timeframe of up to about three months for drugs and alcohol. The process of collecting hair is straightforward, difficult to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

A hair sample measuring 1.5 inches and comprising roughly 200 hair strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg, which is optimal for testing and validation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or a panel above 10, a 150mg sample is advisable. Utilizing a jeweler’s scale to weigh the sample is suggested. In cases where scalp hair is lacking, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be used. “Head hair” here specifically refers to scalp hair, while “body hair” includes all other types such as facial and axillary hair.

Process Overview

The primary stages in the laboratory processing of a drug test result are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves incorporating a sample into a lab’s system initially. This step ensures that the sample is properly sealed and transported, assigns it a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any missing information that an electronic custody system doesn’t provide.

Screening checks samples preliminarily for drug abuse. Although it’s an economical approach for excluding drug use in most samples, confirmed positives are mandatory for legal admissibility. Samples testing positive in Screening need further verification.

In cases where Screening indicates a positive, additional hair is obtained from the original sample for Extraction. At this stage, the concentration of drugs extracted from hair is lower compared to other methods like urine or saliva, which is why hair testing is the most challenging methodology.

Confirmation of any positive result from Screening is done using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS techniques. All initial positive samples undergo cleansing before confirmation if necessary. The entire lab processing from Accessioning to Confirmation is controlled under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation alongside the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair tests reveal drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests that detect for a shorter duration.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is challenging, resulting in more reliable outcomes.
  • Offers historical insights: It provides a chronological pattern of drug usage over time, unlike immediate usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting recent usage: Drugs become detectable in hair only after approximately 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests tend to be costlier than other drug testing approaches.
  • Variability in outcomes: Hair color and individual growth rate can influence drug metabolite concentrations.

Note: Despite being termed "hair follicle tests", the test actually examines the hair strands and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why do hair follicle tests outperform urine tests in Evanston, WY? Hair testing is recognized for providing superior accuracy in detecting long-term substance use. In contrast to traditional urine tests, which only cover recent use, hair analysis can cover up to 90 days, giving a comprehensive view. This increased detection range makes hair testing highly reliable and effective.

Employers benefit from its robustness, as hair tests prevent drug users from escaping detection. This test nullifies the efforts of individuals who might otherwise evade discovery through short-term abstinence, providing a clear picture of drug use history.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Evanston, WY offers a significantly extended detection window for drug use. With the ability to reveal drug consumption over nearly 90 days, employers gain an in-depth understanding of an individual's substance history. This expansive coverage aids in making informed decisions regarding employment and ensures a safer workplace environment.

This method offers a significant advantage over other tests, demonstrating its value in detecting sustained substance use over time. Employers can thus manage workforce safety proactively by identifying potential issues long before they become severe.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

In Evanston, WY, hair follicle tests stand out as highly tamper-resistant. Unlike other testing methods, hair tests drastically minimize the chance of sample adulteration. This ensures that results remain trustworthy, giving employers and other users of this method peace of mind that the data is genuine and uncontested.

Attempting to cheat this system is near impossible, making hair testing a preferred choice for precise drug screening. This assurance of reliability strengthens the case for hair follicle testing as the method of choice for drug detection.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
