In Thorp, Wisconsin, Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug evaluations. If you're in need of a drug or alcohol hair test, Accredited Drug Testing excels in this area, providing nationwide centers able to carry out these assessments. Generally, you need 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair. Hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be customized for different testing requirements.

Recently, there's been a rise in using hair follicle tests for drug screenings. Many employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse specialists prefer hair over urine tests. Employers with strict no-drug policies, legal bodies, and probationers often rely on hair tests. A key advantage is its lengthy detection range of up to 90 days. Hair tests involve observed collections and are tamper-proof. Yet, for drug use within 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is regarded as an effective means for identifying substance and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a long-term record of alcohol and other substances by embedding biomarkers in the strands of the growing hair. When taken near the scalp, hair can reveal up to an approximately 3-month detection span for both alcohol and other substances. Hair is straightforward to gather, somewhat hard to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (about the size of a #2 pencil) closest to the scalp will provide 100mg of hair, which is the ideal sample for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of the sample is advised. We suggest weighing the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair is not available, an equal amount of body hair can be collected. When referencing head hair, we mean scalp hair only. Body hair includes all other types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four main phases involved in analyzing a drug test result in a lab are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves initially processing a sample into a laboratory’s system. This process includes ensuring the sample was sealed and shipped properly, assigning a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any further data entry not provided by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening involves a preliminary rapid examination for drugs of abuse. While Screening is an economical method to exclude drug use in most samples, a positive screen must be verified to be admissible in court. Any samples that are potentially positive in Screening require a secondary confirmation.

If a specimen is potentially positive during the Screening phase, additional hair is taken from the original sample for Extraction. In this phase, substances are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations than other methods (ex. urine or oral fluid), which makes hair drug testing the most complex methodology to perform.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is done via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS. All samples that are potentially positive are washed before confirmation as needed. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is reviewed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection period.
  • Challenging to falsify: It is exceptionally challenging to cheat a hair test, ensuring the results are more accurate.
  • Delivers historical information: It can reveal a history of drug use over time, not just recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent consumption: It takes around 5-7 days for substances to be noticeable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair testing tends to be more costly compared to other testing methods.
  • Result variability: Elements such as hair color and individual variations in hair growth can influence the level of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although frequently called "hair follicle tests", the test itself examines the hair strand and not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing offers clear advantages over traditional urine tests in Thorp, WI. While both methods detect substance use, hair testing excels in accuracy and reliability. The detection window is notably longer for hair tests, providing a more comprehensive history of substance use than urine tests.

Employers and professionals in Thorp can rely on hair testing for superior detection capabilities. It minimizes the risk of errors or omissions commonly associated with urine tests, allowing for a more thorough assessment of an individual's substance history.

Extended Detection Window

The hair follicle testing method in Thorp, WI, offers an extended detection window, capturing substance use up to 90 days. This lengthier timeframe provides employers a detailed insight into an individual's substance use patterns, offering more than what typical tests reveal.

By using hair testing, companies can make well-informed hiring or monitoring decisions, knowing they have a complete view of an applicant or employee's drug use history. This comprehensive snapshot gives employers confidence in ensuring a drug-free environment.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Hair follicle testing significantly curtails the risk of sample adulteration in Thorp, WI. This reliability is crucial for employers and courts seeking accurate results. Hair samples offer an inherent tamper-resistant quality that urine samples cannot match.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
