Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Raymondville, Texas. Specializing in hair evaluations, we have facilities across all cities Nationwide capable of conducting hair tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head’s crown or body suffices. Analyses can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored hair testing services.

Lately, the preference for drug testing methods has inclined towards hair follicle examinations. Various employers, judicial bodies, and Substance Abuse experts are favoring hair tests over routine urine examinations. Hair follicle tests are integral for employers enforcing no-drug policies, judicial authorities, and probation. A key advantage of hair testing is its extended detection period, often up to 90 days, conducted through a watchful collection, making deception almost impossible. Yet, for assessing drugs consumed within 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair evaluation has emerged as an effective instrument for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair retains a prolonged record of alcohol and other substances by capturing biomarkers within the tissues of the growing strand. When gathered near the scalp, hair provides a detection range of up to roughly 3 months for alcohol and other substances. Gathering hair is straightforward, hard to tamper with, and simple to send.

A 1.5-inch sample consisting of about 200 hair strands (roughly the diameter of a #2 pencil) near the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal sample for analysis and validation. For EtG, supplementary tests, and/or panels exceeding 10, 150mg of the specimen is advised. It is suggested to weigh the sample on a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair cannot be obtained, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be collected. When discussing head hair, it refers solely to scalp hair. Body hair applies to any other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The principal steps involved in laboratory processing of a drug test result include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning entails the initial handling of a sample into a laboratory's system. This involves ensuring that the sample was securely sealed and sent correctly, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional data input not supplied by an electronic custody chain system.

Screening provides an initial rapid assessment for drugs of abuse. While Screening is an economical method to eliminate drug usage in most samples, a positive screen requires confirmation to be valid in court. Samples that are presumptively positive in Screening mandate secondary confirmation.

If a sample tests presumptively positive during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the original specimen and prepped for Extraction. In this step, substances are derived from hair at significantly lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which renders hair drug screening the most challenging methodology.

Validation of any positive screening result is executed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleaned before confirmation as necessary. The entire laboratory procedure from Accessioning to Confirmation is audited under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Benefits of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests identify substance use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests that have a more limited detection range.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is very challenging, ensuring more precise results.
  • Provides historical insight: It can showcase a pattern of substance use over time, not merely recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Cannot determine recent consumption: It requires roughly 5-7 days for substances to become detectable in hair.
  • Cost: Hair drug tests are typically pricier compared to other drug testing techniques.
  • Variability in findings: Elements such as hair color and personal differences in hair growth can impact the concentration of drug metabolites within the hair.

Note: Though frequently termed as "hair follicle tests", the actual test analyzes the hair strand rather than the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Raymondville, TX surpasses traditional urine tests by offering enhanced detection accuracy and reliability. Unlike urine tests, which have a shorter detection period, hair tests provide a more comprehensive view into substance history over a 90-day period. Extended Detection Window

Employers in Raymondville, TX benefit from hair follicle testing’s extended detection window, which can reveal drug use over up to 90 days. This makes it a valuable tool for employers seeking a thorough understanding of an employee's substance use history. The ability to trace back substance use through such a broad timeframe is unmatched, offering companies deeper insights and aiding in informed hiring decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
