Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Ranger, Texas. Should you require a hair drug or alcohol test, Accredited Drug Testing excels in hair testing, with facilities available in all cities Nationwide to conduct a hair test. Generally, you need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your crown or body. Tests can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other custom options.

In recent years, drug testing methods have increasingly incorporated hair follicle drug tests. Many employers, legal entities, and Substance Abuse professionals now prefer hair drug tests over traditional urine tests. Hair follicle tests are employed by employers with zero-tolerance policies, courts, and probation officers. Their primary advantage is their extended drug detection period, up to 90 days, collected through an observed process, making them nearly impossible to cheat. However, for detecting drug use in the past 5 days, urine tests remain the most accurate option.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as a robust method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair provides an extended record of alcohol and drug exposure by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the hair shaft as it grows. When harvested near the scalp, hair can reveal substance use over roughly a 3-month period. It is straightforward to collect, challenging to tamper with, and simple to transport.

A sample measuring 1.5 inches with approximately 200 strands, akin to a #2 pencil, near the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the preferred amount for analysis and verification. For EtG, additional panels, and/or tests exceeding 10 panels, 150mg of hair is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for accuracy. If scalp hair is not present, a similar quantity of body hair may be gathered. By head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The drug testing procedure at a laboratory involves four key phases: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning encompasses the preliminary handling of a sample within a laboratory. This includes ensuring the sample’s proper sealing and shipment, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any additional required data entry not captured by an electronic chain of custody record.

Screening provides an initial assessment for drugs of abuse. While it is a cost-efficient method to dismiss drug use in most samples, a positive result from Screening requires confirmation for legal proceedings. Samples appearing positive in Screening must undergo a secondary confirmation.

If a sample tests positive in the Screening phase, more hair from the original sample is used for Extraction. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at a significantly lower concentration than other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair drug analysis the most challenging method to conduct.

Confirmation of any positive screening result is performed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Presumptive positive samples undergo washing as necessary before confirmation. The entire laboratory process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is reviewed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection timeframe: Hair drug testing can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter detection periods.
  • Hard to alter: Hair drug tests are notably difficult to manipulate, thus providing more precise results.
  • Offers historical insight: It reveals a pattern of substance use over time, not solely recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Cannot identify recent use: Drugs become traceable in hair after roughly 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug testing is usually costlier than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variability: Factors like hair color and individual hair growth rates can impact drug metabolite concentrations in hair.

Note: Though commonly termed as "hair follicle tests", the evaluation is conducted on the hair shaft rather than the hair follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing in Ranger, TX offers clear advantages over urine tests. Its superior detection accuracy makes it the preferred method for long-term substance use checks. Hair tests can present an undeniable insight into an individual’s drug history, minimizing false negatives. Employers can trust hair testing to uncover patterns and habits that urine tests might overlook.

Extended Detection Window

By providing a detection window up to 90 days, hair follicle testing in Ranger, TX allows employers to thoroughly assess an individual's drug history. This expansive testing scope is invaluable for gaining an extended view of potential substance use. Extended detection periods enable employers to make well-informed decisions based on comprehensive substance use profiles.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

The robust nature of hair follicle testing in Ranger, TX significantly decreases the chances of tampering. Hair samples provide solid proof, offering unquestionable test results. Attempts at sample adulteration are virtually eliminated, as altering hair from the follicle is extremely difficult. Thus, the reliability of hair testing strengthens the integrity of drug screening processes.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
