Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug assessments in Jasper, Texas. If you're in need of a hair drug or alcohol assessment, Accredited Drug Testing focuses on hair analysis, with facilities across all cities nationwide capable of conducting hair tests. Generally, you need 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head's crown or body for the test. These tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or offer other custom testing options.

In recent times, drug testing methods have increasingly included the hair follicle approach. Numerous employers, judicial systems, and Substance Abuse experts prefer a hair drug test over the traditional urine analysis. Employers enforcing strict no-drug use policies, judicial authorities, and probationers opt for hair tests since they offer a substantially extended detection period of around 90 days, are conducted under observation, and are nearly impossible to falsify. Nonetheless, the urine test remains the most precise for screening drug use within the last five days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis has emerged as an effective method for identifying drug and alcohol use. The hair holds a historical record of alcohol and drug intake by capturing biomarkers within the strands as they grow. With collection near the scalp, hair can present a detection timespan of up to approximately three months for both alcohol and drugs. The process of collecting hair is straightforward, it's relatively resistant to tampering, and simple to transport.

A hair sample measuring 1.5 inches, comprising around 200 strands (similar to the thickness of a #2 pencil), yields 100mg of hair, which is the preferred quantity for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and/or evaluations over 10 panels, a specimen of 150mg is advisable. It is suggested to weigh the sample using a jeweler’s scale. In instances where scalp hair is not available, an equivalent portion of body hair can be used. When mentioning head hair, it relates solely to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (such as facial or axillary hair).

Process Overview

There are four primary phases involved in the laboratory processing of a drug test result: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is about the initial processing of a sample into a laboratory system. This involves confirming that the sample was adequately sealed and shipped, assigning it a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any remaining data entry that isn't handled by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of a preliminary check for drugs of abuse. Although Screening offers a cost-efficient method to rule out drug use for most samples, any positive outcomes must be verified for court admissibility. Any presumptively positive samples during Screening require secondary confirmation.

If the Screening stage indicates a presumptively positive sample, additional hair is taken from the original specimen and prepared for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at significantly lower concentrations than in alternative methodologies (such as urine or oral fluid), rendering hair drug testing the most challenging methodology to execute.

GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods confirm any positive results from the screening. All presumptive positives undergo a washing process prior to confirmation as necessary. The complete laboratory procedure, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is evaluated under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and the ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can trace drug use for up to 90 days, contrasting with urine tests, which have a shorter detection period.
  • Resistance to tampering: Cheating on a hair drug test is exceedingly difficult, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Shows usage patterns: It can trace a timeline of drug use, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Inability to identify recent usage: Drugs require approximately 5-7 days to become traceable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than other testing methods.
  • Results variability: Hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence the drug metabolite concentration within the hair.

Note: Frequently referred to as "hair follicle tests", this test actually evaluates the hair strand instead of the hair follicle located beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why choose hair follicle testing in Jasper, TX? It significantly outperforms traditional urine tests in detection accuracy. This superior method offers a long detection window, marking a drastic improvement over customary urine analysis. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
