Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Jacksonville, Texas. Specializing in hair and alcohol testing, our centers, available in cities nationwide, are adept at administering these tests. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is sufficient for the test. Options include testing for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other tailored hair analysis.

Hair follicle drug tests have become more common in recent years for drug testing purposes. Employers, courts, and substance abuse professionals now often prefer a hair drug test over traditional urine tests. This method caters to zero-tolerance policies in workplaces, judicial systems, and for those on probation. A key advantage is the extensive detection window, up to 90 days, and the observed collection process, which ensures reliability, though urine tests remain the gold standard for recent usage detection within 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is recognized as an effective method for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair captures a long-term record of drugs and alcohol by trapping biomarkers in the hair's growing fibers. When sampled close to the scalp, hair can reveal drug and alcohol use up to around 3 months prior. Collecting hair is easy, challenging to tamper with, and convenient to transport.

Securing a 1.5-inch segment of approximately 200 hair strands (around #2 pencil thickness) near the scalp yields 100mg, the optimal sample size for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, or tests beyond 10 panels, a 150mg sample is advised. It's recommended to weigh samples using a jeweler's scale. If scalp hair isn't available, a comparable amount of body hair is a suitable alternative. 'Head hair' denotes only scalp hair, while 'body hair' includes all other hair types (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

The key stages in processing a laboratory drug test result include Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial stage where a sample is processed into a laboratory’s system. This step ensures proper sealing and shipment of the sample, assigns a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data entry absent in an electronic chain of custody.

Screening is a swift preliminary check for drug abuse. Although Screening is a cost-effective reduction of drug usage in the majority of cases, a positive result requires legal confirmation. Any samples that test presumptively positive in Screening must undergo a secondary confirmation.

If a sample tests presumptively positive in Screening, additional hair is taken from the initial sample for Extraction. Here, drugs are extracted from hair at much lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), making hair drug screening the most complex method to execute.

GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS are used to confirm any positive screening results. All samples testing presumptively positive are washed before confirmation as necessary. The entire process from Accessioning to Confirmation is thoroughly checked under CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation guidelines and in accordance with ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can trace drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter span.
  • Resistance to manipulation: Manipulating hair drug tests is extremely challenging, ensuring more reliable results.
  • Historical insights: It supplies a historical usage pattern, not just immediate consumption.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of tracing recent use: Detecting drugs in hair takes about 5-7 days.
  • Costliness: Hair drug tests often incur higher costs compared to alternative testing routes.
  • Result variability: Differences such as hair color and individual growth patterns can influence drug metabolite concentrations within hair.

Note: Commonly termed "hair follicle tests", this assessment evaluates the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Jacksonville, TX offers a in depth comparison of these methods. Hair testing stands out with superior detection accuracy, showcasing high consistency in identifying drugs longer than the typical urine test.
This reliability stems from the fact that hair tests aren't susceptible to adulteration or substitution, common pitfalls of urine testing, ensuring a foolproof process.

Unlike urine tests, hair follicle testing provides an extensive detection window, identifying drug use up to 90 days back. This duration outstrips the much shorter urine testing period, offering employers a more comprehensive look into substance use. Drawing from head or body hair, it remains unaffected by short-term cessation, making it a hardy choice for informed testing.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window offers significant advantages in Jacksonville, TX, as hair follicle testing extends the detection of drug use to as long as 90 days. This broader time frame surpasses traditional methods, providing essential insights into a subject's longer-term substance history. For employers, this presents a meticulous way to examine patterns extending well beyond temporary behavioral changes.

Long-lasting detection is a hallmark of hair follicle testing, enabling a thorough analysis of substance usage patterns. A 90-day detection window is invaluable for employers looking to maintain safe, drug-free environments. The capacity of hair tests to look further back provides much-needed assurance and comprehensive analysis.
Long-term professional and legal expectations find support in these extended insights.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method is paramount in Jacksonville, TX. Hair follicle tests notably minimize the risk of sample adulteration, yielding results that are both reliable and beyond dispute. With hair samples, the chances for manipulation or substitution are substantially reduced compared to other testing methods, ensuring integrity in all phases of the drug-testing process.

This method maintains the integrity of the sample, reducing external influence. The collection process is directly observed, minimizing potential misconduct like switching samples or diluting them. This reliability provides confidence in the outcomes, fundamental for settings requiring unequivocal results, such as probation or employment checks.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
