Accredited Drug Testing provides comprehensive hair follicle drug testing in Greenville, Texas. If a hair or alcohol test is needed, they specialize in hair examinations with testing sites available nationwide. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the head's crown or body is required. Hair tests can be customized for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or other specific needs.

Recently, drug testing increasingly involves hair follicle analysis. A growing number of employers, courts, and Substance Abuse experts prefer this method over the traditional urine test. Zero-tolerance employers, courts, and probation monitors favor hair tests for their lengthy detection period of up to 90 days, observed collection process, and difficulty in tampering. Yet, urine tests remain best for detecting very recent drug use, specifically in the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair analysis is esteemed as an effective means of identifying the consumption of drugs and alcohol. Hair strands encapsulate a prolonged record of alcohol and drug interactions by embedding biomarkers within the growing fibers. When procured near the scalp, hair can present a detection span of up to roughly 90 days for various substances. Collecting hair is easy, comparatively challenging to tamper with, and convenient to dispatch.

A 1.5-inch segment of around 200 hair strands (equivalent to the thickness of a #2 pencil) collected nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of material, which is the optimal quantity for both screening and verification. For tests involving EtG, supplementary analyses, or going beyond 10-panel tests, a sample size of 150mg is advised. We propose using a jeweler’s scale for weight accuracy. If scalp hair is inaccessible, a similar measure of body hair might be taken. By head hair, we specifically mean scalp hair. Body hair is all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The laboratory handling of a drug test involves four key stages: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Verification.

Accessioning is the initial phase of inputting a sample into a lab’s records. It consists of confirming the proper sealing and shipping of the sample, generating a unique LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finalizing any extra data input that an electronic chain of custody system might not have covered.

Screening is a preliminary swift assessment for substance misuse. Although Screening offers a cost-efficient method to eliminate most samples from further drug use suspicion, confirmation of a positive screen is necessary for legal acceptability. Samples indicated as potentially positive during Screening must undergo a subsequent confirmation process.

If a sample indicates a presumptive positive result during Screening, additional hair is extracted from the primary sample for the Extraction phase. This phase involves retrieving drugs from hair at lower concentrations than other techniques (such as urine or oral fluids), making hair drug analysis notably challenging to execute.

Verification of any positive Screening outcome is achieved using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS methods. Prior to verification, all samples showing presumptive positives undergo cleansing as required. The complete lab process from Accessioning through Confirmation is scrutinized under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) hair guidelines and ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation standards.

Benefits of hair drug screening:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify substance usage for up to 90 days, contrasting with urine tests, which offer a shorter timeframe.
  • Tough to tamper with: Manipulating a hair drug test is extremely challenging, boosting result accuracy.
  • Yields historical insight: This method offers a timeline of substance usage, not just recent consumption.

Drawbacks:

  • Incapable of identifying recent consumption: Approximately 5-7 days are necessary for drugs to become evident in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests usually incur higher costs than alternative testing techniques.
  • Result variations: Factors such as hair pigmentation and personal differences in hair growth can influence drug metabolite presence in hair.

Note: Although frequently termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis pertains to the hair shaft itself, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Regarding drug testing efficacy in Greenville, TX, hair follicle testing proves superior to traditional urine testing. Hair tests reveal more comprehensive detection, capturing drug usage up to 90 days prior, unlike urine tests with shorter windows. The accuracy and consistency of hair tests are unparalleled, making them the preferred choice for numerous employers and authorities seeking reliable results.

Extended Detection Window

Hair follicle testing in Greenville, TX shines with its extended detection span, identifying drug use over up to 90 days. This offers employers a detailed look into an individual's substance use history, crucial for informed employment decisions. By covering such an extensive period, employers benefit from a complete perspective of an applicant or employee's past substance usage.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Within Greenville, TX, hair follicle drug tests stand out for their tamper-resistant nature. This method dramatically lowers the risk of specimen manipulation, ensuring results are both reliable and indisputable. By utilizing a method that is challenging to alter, stakeholders can trust in the integrity of the outcomes, reducing complications associated with tampering.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
