Process Overview

Samples with presumptively positive results in Screening need secondary confirmation.
In cases where a sample is presumptively positive in Screening, further hair is pulled from the original sample and prepared for Extraction. During this stage, drugs are extracted at lower concentrations than other methods (e.g., urine or saliva), making hair drug screening one of the most challenging methodologies.
Confirmation for any positive screening results is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Before confirmation, all presumptively positive samples are cleansed as necessary. The entire process from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair guidelines and accredited to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.
