Employment, Court Ordered, Probation, Family

Offering a comprehensive hair follicle drug testing service, Accredited Drug Testing in Mazie, Oklahoma, caters to individuals needing hair drug or alcohol tests. Specializing in hair analysis, our centers are accessible in cities nationwide. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from the crown or body is required. These tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be customized for specific needs.

Recently, hair follicle testing has become a preferred method for drug detection. It is increasingly required by employers, courts, and Substance Abuse professionals over traditional urine tests. Hair tests are favored by zero-tolerance organizations, courts, and probation officers for their extended detection capability, spanning up to 90 days, through a monitored process that is difficult to tamper with. However, urine tests remain more accurate for recent drug use within the past 5 days.

What it is, How it works

Hair tests have gained recognition as an effective means for spotting drug and alcohol usage. Hair captures a longer-term history of substances by embedding biomarkers within the strands of hair. When retrieved nearest to the scalp, hair offers roughly a three-month window for detecting alcohol and drugs. Hair sampling is straightforward, challenging to tamper with, and effortless to transport.

A segment measuring 1.5 inches from approximately 200 hair strands (similar in thickness to a #2 pencil) close to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which is the optimal amount for both screening and confirmation. For EtG, additional tests, and exams exceeding 10 panels, a recommendation of 150mg of the sample is given. It's advisable to use a jeweler’s scale to measure the sample. If there is no scalp hair, an equivalent quantity of body hair can be utilized. References to head hair pertain strictly to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other hair types (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The lab processing of a drug test result includes four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning is the initial step where the sample is integrated into a laboratory’s system. This step ensures the sample is correctly sealed and transported, generates a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completes any extra data input not covered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary rapid check for drugs of abuse. While cost-effective for eliminating drug use in many samples, a positive screen must be confirmed for admissibility in legal settings. Samples that are potentially positive in Screening require an additional confirmation.

For presumptive positive results at the Screening stage, extra hair is taken from the original sample for the Extraction process. Here, the drugs are removed from hair at significantly lower levels than other methods (such as urine or saliva), which is why hair drug testing is the most challenging methodology to execute.

Positive screening results undergo Confirmation through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Samples with preliminary positive results are washed prior to Confirmation when necessary. The complete lab process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is scrutinized under the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation along with accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can reveal drug use up to 90 days, unlike urine tests which have a shorter detection period.
  • Hard to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely difficult, increasing result accuracy.
  • Shows usage history: It presents a drug use pattern over time, rather than just recent activity.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of detecting current use: It requires around 5-7 days for drugs to be detected in hair.
  • Higher expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than alternative drug testing methods.
  • Result variations: Drug metabolite concentrations in hair can be influenced by hair color and individual hair growth rates.

Note: Although sometimes called "hair follicle tests", the test evaluates the hair strand rather than the follicle located beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Hair follicle testing is preferred over urine tests in Mazie, OK, because of its superior detection accuracy and reliability. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
