In this phase, drugs are removed from hair at significantly lower concentrations than other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), highlighting why hair drug testing is among the most challenging methodologies.
Confirmation of any positive screening outcome is performed via GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation as necessary.
