Accredited Drug Testing in Hartwell, Georgia, offers comprehensive hair follicle drug tests. If a hair drug or alcohol test is needed, Accredited Drug Testing excels in performing these tests, with locations available in cities across the Nation capable of administering a hair test. Generally, hair from the head or body measuring 1.5 to 2 inches is suitable for analysis. Hair tests can screen for drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be tailored for other specific requirements.

In recent times, drug testing strategies have shifted towards hair follicle tests more often. Numerous employers, legal systems, and Substance Abuse professionals favor hair drug tests over typical urine tests. Employers with strict anti-drug policies, as well as courts and probationary services, utilize these tests. The major advantage of hair follicle tests is that they reveal drug use over a significantly longer timeframe, usually up to 90 days, with observed collection minimizing cheating. Yet, for drug use detection in the recent 5 days, urine tests retain superior accuracy.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing has become regarded as a potent means for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair acts as a repository of long-term drug and alcohol history by embedding biomarkers within the fibers of the growing hair strand. When collected near the scalp, hair can offer a detection window of up to three months for alcohol and other substances. Hair collection is straightforward, somewhat resistant to tampering, and easy to transport.

A 1.5-inch sample of approximately 200 hair strands (equivalent to the diameter of a #2 pencil) taken closest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, which constitutes the optimal amount for screening and confirmation processes. For EtG, additional analyses, and/or tests beyond 10 panels, a specimen weighing 150mg is advised. We suggest using a jeweler’s scale for weighing the specimen. If scalp hair is not accessible, an equivalent volume of body hair may be collected. When mentioning head hair, we are solely referring to scalp hair. Body hair encompasses all other types of hair (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The four primary procedures involved in laboratory processing of a drug test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning pertains to the initial integration of a sample into the laboratory's system. This entails verifying that the sample was properly sealed and shipped, assigning an arbitrary LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing any supplementary data input not offered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening consists of an initial rapid examination for drugs of abuse. While Screening is an economical approach to eliminate drug usage in the majority of samples, a positive result in Screening requires confirmation to be legally defensible. Any samples that test presumptively positive during Screening necessitate a subsequent confirmation.

Should a sample test presumptively positive at the Screening stage, additional hair is retrieved from the original specimen and made ready for Extraction. In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at a significantly lower concentration than in other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is considered the most challenging methodology to carry out.

Confirmation for any positive screening outcome is executed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples are cleansed prior to confirmation as required. The complete laboratory process from Accessioning to Confirmation undergoes review under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025 standards.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, compared to urine tests which possess a shorter detection duration.
  • Challenging to manipulate: Cheating a hair drug test is extremely difficult, rendering the results more reliable.
  • Offers historical information: It can illustrate a pattern of drug use over time, not merely recent consumption.

Limitations:

  • Unable to detect recent use: It requires approximately 5-7 days for drugs to become detectable in hair.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests generally carry a higher cost than other drug testing techniques.
  • Result variances: Factors like hair color and individual differences in hair growth can impact the concentration of drug metabolites in hair.

Note: Although frequently termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis focuses on the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Testing Tops Urine Testing

In Hartwell, GA, hair follicle tests boast superior detection accuracy over urine tests. With a longer detection window and advanced reliability, hair testing uncovers substance use that urine tests might miss. Compare this with urine analysis, which captures limited recent use, and it's clear why many prefer the thoroughness of hair testing.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Period

Hair follicle testing in Hartwell, GA, offers an impressive detection span, revealing drug use for up to 90 days. Such longevity provides a detailed substance history, giving employers vital insights into an employee's past use patterns. This longer window outperforms traditional methods, offering substantial peace of mind when evaluating potential hires.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Ensuring Results Integrity

Hair follicle testing in Hartwell, GA, dramatically cuts down on the risk of tampering. By utilizing samples that are hard to adulterate, this method provides reliable and indisputable results, essential for maintaining integrity in drug testing processes. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
