In this phase, drugs are extracted from hair at a much-diluted concentration compared to other methods (such as urine or oral fluid), highlighting hair drug screening’s complexity.
Confirmation of positive Screening outcomes is completed through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. Samples showing presumptive positivity undergo washing before confirmation if needed. The entire laboratory process, from Accessioning to Confirmation, is reviewed under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and compliance with ISO / IEC 17025 standards.
