Accredited Drug Testing offers comprehensive hair follicle drug testing services in Manila, California. Whether for drugs or alcohol, Accredited Drug Testing specializes in hair analysis, with centers nationwide and in every city to conduct such tests. Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of head or body hair is needed. The tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, or be tailored for various other analyses.

Lately, the trend has shifted towards utilizing hair follicle tests for drug detection. Preferred by employers, legal entities, and substance abuse specialists, hair drug testing is favored over traditional urine tests. Employers with strict drug policies, judicial systems, and individuals on probation opt for this test due to its extended detection window, which spans up to 90 days and allows for observed collection, making it nearly tamper-proof. Nonetheless, for detecting drug usage within a recent 5-day window, urine tests remain the most reliable.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as an effective means for identifying drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended timeline of substance use by capturing biomarkers in the growing strand's fibers. When taken near the scalp, it can reveal alcohol and other drug use over about a 3-month period. Hair is easy to collect, challenging to tamper with, and straightforward to transport.

By collecting a 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (comparable to a #2 pencil’s thickness) from the scalp, 100mg of hair is gathered—ideal for screening and confirmation. For EtG, add-ons, and/or over 10 panels tests, 150mg of the sample is advisable. We suggest weighing the sample with a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn’t available, a similar volume of body hair can be obtained. Head hair refers specifically to scalp hair, whereas body hair includes all other types (e.g., facial, axillary).

Process Overview

The drug test result process in a lab includes four key steps: Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning involves entering the sample into the lab system, verifying the proper sealing and shipment of the sample, assigning a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and completing extra data entry if not available through an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is a preliminary examination for drug abuse. Although it's an affordable way to exclude drug usage in most samples, a positive result in Screening needs confirmation for legal acceptability. Samples that test positive presumptively in Screening require further confirmation.

In cases where a sample shows a presumptive positive in Screening, additional hair is taken from the initial sample and prepared for Extraction. At this stage, drugs are extracted from hair at lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), making hair screening the most complex method to conduct.

The confirmation of any positive Screening result is performed using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All samples that presumptively tested positive are cleaned before confirmation if necessary. Both CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair designation and ISO / IEC 17025 standards oversee the entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Long detection window: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, contrasting with urine tests that offer a shorter detection window.
  • Challenge to cheat: It's difficult to manipulate a hair drug test, ensuring more precise results.
  • Historical data provision: It reveals a trend of drug use over time rather than merely recent use.

Limitations:

  • Inability to detect recent use: Drugs take around 5-7 days to become detectable in hair.
  • Higher cost: Hair drug tests are typically costlier than other testing methods.
  • Result variations: Elements such as hair color and individual hair growth differences can influence the concentration of drug metabolites in the hair.

Note: Although often called "hair follicle tests", the analysis actually examines the hair strand, not the follicle beneath the scalp.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

In Manila, CA, hair follicle tests surpass urine tests by providing more reliable and precise drug detection results. Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
