Accredited Drug Testing provides thorough hair follicle drug testing services in Luxora, AR. For those requiring a hair analysis for drugs or alcohol, our expertise in hair testing is unmatched. With centers nationwide, including in every major city, we can perform these tests conveniently. Typically, 1.5 to 2 inches of hair from your head or body is needed. Our hair tests can detect drugs, alcohol/ETG, and offer custom testing solutions.

Recently, the preference for drug testing methods has shifted towards hair follicle drug testing. Employers, judicial systems, and substance abuse specialists are increasingly opting for hair tests over traditional urine tests. Organizations with strict no-drug policies, judiciary bodies, and people on probation find hair tests advantageous. Their main edge is the extended detection span, up to 90 days, conducted under supervision, making tampering nearly impossible. For recent drug use within the past 5 days, urine tests remain the most precise.

What it is, How it works

Hair testing is recognized as a robust mechanism for detecting drug and alcohol consumption. Hair offers an extended timeline of alcohol and substance intake by capturing biomarkers within the fibers of the developing hair strand. When close to the scalp is collected, hair offers up to a roughly 3-month detection timeline for alcohol and drugs. It's easy to collect, relatively resistant to tampering, and straightforward to transport.

A 1.5-inch segment of roughly 200 hair strands (similar in size to a #2 pencil) nearest to the scalp will yield 100mg of hair, the ideal amount for analysis and verification. For EtG, add-ons, and/or screenings beyond 10 panels, a 150mg sample is advised. We suggest measuring the sample using a jeweler’s scale. If scalp hair isn't available, an equivalent quantity of body hair may be utilized. When discussing head hair, we mean scalp hair exclusively. Body hair indicates all other hair varieties (facial, axillary, etc.).

Process Overview

The primary steps in the lab processing of a drug test outcome are Accessioning, Screening, Extraction, and Confirmation.

Accessioning comprises the preliminary handling of a sample into a lab’s system. This process confirms the sample was sealed and sent correctly, assigns a random LAN (Laboratory Accessioning Number), and finishes any extra information entry not offered by an electronic chain of custody system.

Screening is an initial rapid check for drugs of abuse. Although Screening is a cost-effective approach to exclude drug usage in most samples, for the results to be court-admissible, a positive screen must be confirmed. Any samples that are presumptively positive in Screening necessitate a subsequent confirmation.

If a sample tests presumptively positive during the Screening phase, more hair is extracted from the initial sample for Extraction. In this process, drugs are pulled from hair at considerably lower concentrations compared to other methods (e.g., urine or oral fluid), which is why hair drug screening is the most complex method to execute.

Verification of any positive screening result is done through GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, or LC/MS/MS. All presumptive positive samples undergo washing before confirmation. The entire lab process from Accessioning to Confirmation is examined under both the CAP (College of American Pathologists) Hair classification and the ISO / IEC 17025 standards accreditation.

Advantages of hair drug testing:

  • Extended detection period: Hair drug tests can identify drug use for up to 90 days, unlike urine tests with shorter detection times.
  • Hard to falsify: Cheating a hair drug test is notably challenging, enhancing result accuracy.
  • Delivers historical insight: It highlights a timeline of drug consumption, not just recent usage.

Limitations:

  • Incapable of spotting recent use: Detectability of drugs in hair takes about 5-7 days.
  • Expense: Hair drug tests typically cost more than alternative drug testing techniques.
  • Result variations: Factors like hair color and personal differences in hair growth can affect drug metabolite concentrations.

Note: Although commonly termed "hair follicle tests", the analysis actually focuses on the hair strand, not the scalp's hair follicle.

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing

Why Hair Follicle Testing Beats Urine Testing in Luxora, AR: Hair follicle testing surpasses traditional urine tests by offering superior detection accuracy. While urine samples might be tampered with, hair tests are difficult to alter, ensuring reliable outcomes. This enhanced efficacy is why more employers and courts favor hair testing over urine.

The capacity of hair tests to detect drug use over a long span makes them preferable to urine tests. They can reliably indicate substance use up to 90 days prior, offering comprehensive insights. This ensures more informed and safer decisions regarding hiring or legal matters.

Extended Detection Window

Extended Detection Window in Luxora, AR: Hair follicle drug tests provide a broader detection window, revealing substance use up to 90 days prior. This gives employers a holistic view of an individual's drug history, aiding in smarter decisions about potential employees or current staff, ensuring a safer work environment.

This longer detection period allows companies to monitor and enforce compliance with workplace policies effectively. The extended window is a valuable aspect for employers wanting to ensure a drug-free workplace, offering them confidence in the suitability of their workforce.

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method

Tamper-Resistant Testing Method in Luxora, AR: Hair follicle tests significantly lower the risk of sample tampering, providing consistent and unquestionable results. Unlike urine tests, the integrity of hair tests is maintained from start to finish, ensuring trusted outcomes vital for compliance with drug-free policies.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hair follicle drug test analyzes a small sample of hair to detect a history of drug use over time. Because drug metabolites are incorporated into hair as it grows, this method can show patterns of use instead of just recent exposure. It is frequently used for legal and court requirements, long-term monitoring, and high-trust workforce screening.
Standard hair drug testing typically reflects drug use over approximately a 90-day period, based on the length of hair collected at the time of testing. Longer hair can sometimes reflect a longer time frame, and extremely short hair can reduce that window.
Hair drug testing commonly screens for marijuana/THC, cocaine, opiates/opioids, amphetamines/methamphetamines, and PCP. In many cases, additional expanded panels may be requested to include other substances.
Yes. If the donor's head hair is too short or unavailable, body hair may be collected as an alternative. The collector will document the source of the sample. This allows testing even for individuals with recently cut or shaved head hair.
Yes. Hair drug testing is commonly used in court, probation, custody, and compliance matters because the collection process follows a documented chain of custody and the analysis is performed by a certified laboratory. Results are provided in a form that can be reviewed by legal and administrative authorities.
Yes. Individuals, parents, attorneys, employers, and probation programs can all request hair drug testing. A doctor's order is not required. Results are confidential and released only to the authorized requesting party.
Hair testing provides a longer look-back period than urine testing, making it useful when you need to demonstrate ongoing abstinence or identify repeated/recent substance use patterns over time rather than just recent exposure. It is frequently selected for legal, compliance, and custody-related documentation.
A small section of hair is cut by a trained collector in a discreet, controlled manner. The sample is sealed, documented, and sent to the laboratory under established chain-of-custody procedures so that the results can be defended if they are ever challenged.
