Selecting the Right Drug Testing Panel

Drug testing panels are groupings of screened substances. Commonly, 5-panel, 10-panel, and 12-panel tests are offered, but custom panels are also available.

Understanding Drug Tests

A drug test involves technical analysis of a biological sample like urine, hair, blood, or saliva to detect drugs or metabolites. Applications include screening for steroids in sports, workplace drug policies, and law enforcement checks for substances like alcohol via BAC (blood alcohol content) measured by breathalyzer.

Can Passive Smoke Inhalation Cause a False Positive for Marijuana?

Typically, passive marijuana smoke inhalation isn't seen as sufficient for a positive drug test, due to lab cut-off levels set beyond passive exposure.

Urine screen irregularities might suggest false negatives or sample tampering. For instance:

  • Low creatinine levels could point to hydration manipulation, either by excessive consumption or water adding.
  • Creatinine and specific gravity ratios provide clues about sample dilution. Labs may dye toilet water to prevent sample adulteration.
  • Introducing enzymes may alter the sample's pH, which is also analyzed.

Drug Detection Timeframes

Factors affecting drug detection periods include:

  • Dosage
  • Usage frequency
  • Drug type
  • Individual’s metabolism and health
  • Fluid intake post drug use
  • Exercise levels post drug use
  • Genetic factors altering drug response
