Choosing the Right Drug Testing Panel
Drug testing typically revolves around panel tests, with 5, 10, and 12-panel options among the most common. Customized panels can also be configured to suit specific needs.
Understanding Drug Tests
A drug test analyzes biological samples like urine, hair, or saliva to identify specific drugs or metabolites. This is crucial for detecting performance-enhancing steroids in sports or unlawful substances for legal and employment purposes. Breathalyzers measure Blood Alcohol Content (BAC), while urinalysis is preferred in workplace and sports settings.
Is passive marijuana smoke problematic?
Passive exposure to marijuana smoke in a room does not typically result in a positive drug test. The detection thresholds are set above levels that passive inhalation might cause.
Abnormalities in screening can imply false negatives or intentional sample tampering. For example:
- Low creatinine levels can suggest dilution by excessive water intake prior to testing.
- Specific gravity and creatinine levels assess if samples are diluted.
- Labs may tint toilet water to prevent using it for dilution.
- Attempts to alter samples with enzymes might change the pH, which is monitored.
Drugs' Duration in the System
The detection window, or look-back period, varies based on several factors:
- Amount and frequency of drug intake
- Type of drug
- Metabolic rate and health of individual
- Fluid intake and physical activity post-ingestion
- Personal genetic differences affecting drug processing
