West Ishpeming is an unincorporated community in Ishpeming Township, Marquette County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is also a census-designated place (CDP) for statistical purposes, with no legal status as an incorporated municipality. The population was 2,792 at the 2000 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 3.0 square miles (7.8 km2), of which 3.0 square miles (7.8 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) (1.64%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,792 people, 1,043 households, and 804 families residing in the community. The population density was 929.4 per square mile (359.3/km²). There were 1,081 housing units at an average density of 359.8 per square mile (139.1/km²). The racial makeup of the community was 98.50% White, 0.18% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.18% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.50% of the population.
