Understanding Drug Testing

Drug testing involves analyzing biological samples like urine, hair, or blood to detect parent drugs or metabolites. Its primary uses include checking for steroids in sports and prohibited substances in the workplace or legal settings. BAC, determined via breathalyzer, is also a common form of testing in these scenarios.

Does Passive Marijuana Smoke Cause False Positives?

Trace exposure to marijuana smoke does not typically result in a positive test, as laboratories have thresholds that exceed what would result from passive inhalation.

Other urine abnormalities could suggest falsification, such as:

  • Low creatinine levels indicating dilution or tampering
  • Creatinine and gravity measures to detect dilution
  • pH adjustments from added substances, which are also tested

Duration of Drug Presence in the System

The detection timeframe for substances during a drug test hinges on multiple factors, including:

  • Quantity taken
  • Frequency of use
  • Drug type
  • Metabolic rate and health of the individual
  • Fluid intake after use
  • Exercise following ingestion
  • Genetic factors influencing drug metabolism
