Galveston Island was originally inhabited by members of the Karankawa and Akokisa tribes who called the island Auia. The Spanish explorer Cabeza de Vaca and his crew were shipwrecked on the island or nearby in November 1528, calling it "Isla de Malhado" ("Isle of Bad Fate"). They began their years-long trek to a Spanish settlement in Mexico City. During his charting of the Gulf Coast in 1785, the Spanish explorer José de Evia named the island Villa Gálvez or Gálveztown in honor of Bernardo de Gálvez y Madrid, Count of Gálvez (1746-1786).

Understanding Drug Tests

Drug testing involves analyzing biological specimens such as urine, hair, blood, breath, sweat, or saliva to detect the presence of drugs or their metabolites. Uses include detecting performance-enhancing steroids in sports, monitoring compliance in workplaces, and testing for alcohol using BAC levels. A variety of testing methods with differing accuracy and detection ranges exist.

Can Passive Smoke Inhalation Trigger a False Positive for Marijuana?

Passive marijuana smoke exposure is unlikely to result in a positive test. Laboratory cut-off levels are set to exclude minor exposure effects typical of passive inhalation.

Abnormalities in urine tests, such as:

  • Low creatinine values may suggest urine tampering or sample dilution through excessive water consumption.
  • Specific gravity and creatinine measurements help indicate sample dilution. Testing facilities often add dye to toilet water to prevent tampering.
  • The addition of specific enzymes to alter stability can be detected by changes in pH levels, which are tested during the process.

Drug Retention Duration in the System

The period during which drugs remain detectable varies, influenced by factors including:

  • Dosage consumed
  • Frequency of use
  • Drug type
  • The individual's metabolic rate and health
  • Fluid intake post-consumption
  • Physical activity levels after use
  • Genetic factors affecting drug metabolism
